THE WORK

Transformation starts within
In the modern era, full of technological marvels and distractions, it is more and more possible to progress through life without ever considering one’s own existence. And yet, even in an age where we find ourselves more comfortable than ever before, something keeps pulling us back to the question of who we are. Throughout human history, around the world, in different cultures and languages, an understanding was passed down from parent to child, through the generations of humans. An understanding that no matter how wealthy, successful or popular we may become, suffering is an inescapable part of human experience. And yet, this was not an understanding that produced hopelessness, because it pointed out that this suffering is inviting something of us. It is inviting us to turn towards the uncomfortable aspects of ourselves and our experience – and through this to become wise. This is “The Work”.
“When the moon disappears
leaving darkest night,
And I have walked the path without a light,
From black, through red, to white.
Then, by my own nature, I shine bright.”

-M.K

Different cultures and societies have found different formulations and modalities of The Work but the central thread of a sacred journey into the unknown has always been present. We draw on the rich backdrop of these histories to bring into service the most effective mechanisms, symbols and practices for contemporary people. Our approach weaves together the wisdoms of psychoanalysis, psycho-drama and initiatory rituals into powerful processes, workshops and spaces of inter-relation. Our team of facilitators have many decades of combined experience doing The Work, and each member brings their own unique approach and understanding. The Work is designed to facilitate not only the growth of individuals but also the development of communities and interpersonal relationships based on the qualities of authenticity, integrity and compassion.

The Work facilitates not only the empowerment of individuals to face life and its many challenges head-on but also the healing and release of wounds and traumas that hold them back. We create spaces which are well contained and yet encourage bravery for people to step into confronting the most challenging aspects of who they are. Therefore, we do not create ‘safe spaces’ but rather brave spaces. Thus, while we challenge people to confront their own experience as it is, we also ensure all involved feel held and supported throughout the process.

“The cave that you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek.”

-Joseph Campbell
The Work is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, cast, creed or background. We all have parts of ourselves we avoid, anxieties and insecurities and old wounds or traumas. In short, we all suffer, in some way shape or form. And this suffering provides a propulsive push to step into the fire of our own experience and to do The Work. What that work looks like will vary from individual to individual. Hence, we are striving to create a plurality of spaces. Some of the spaces we offer are therefore designated to people of particular age groups, communities or genders to better cater to the particular needs of those people in their journeys. These are not hard and fast boundaries but are general guidelines to help ensure people are able to receive what they need from these spaces. To this end, we offer a variety of weekends, workshops and ongoing group meetings.

Great storytellers break them”
